Barbara Ann Bluntson is a candidate for Chancery Court Judge, District 11, Place 1, which covers Holmes County, Yazoo County, and a portion of northern Madison County including Flora and 3 precincts in Canton – Ward 5, Ward 4, and the Baptist Family Life Center.

Chancery Court is the court that deals with Family Law.  Once elected, Barbara Ann will hear issues surrounding child support, child custody, adoptions, guardianships and wills & estates. These are all matters that are very personal, emotional and intimate to each and every one of us, including Barbara Ann.

Not only will Barbara Ann be fair and impartial, but she will be in a position to show compassion, grace and mercy to those who appear in her court.  Barbara Ann is just like so many single moms today. She’s a single mom of a teenage son.  She works everyday to make sure the bills are paid and that there’s food on the table.  She tries hard to carve time out of her busy schedule to spend quality time with her son.  Barbara Ann knows firsthand the expenses involved with raising a child as a single parent.  She knows how hard the economy is for those who strive to make a decent living in order to provide support to their children.  Finding herself a single mom after the sudden death of her husband on December 23, 2000,  she also knows the importance of having a will in place to make sure loved ones are taken care of in the event of an untimely death.

Barbara Ann has practiced law in Mississippi for the past 20 years.  She began her legal career in 1994 as a staff attorney for Mississippi Child Support.  Thereafer, she opened her private law firm where she handled divorces, child support, child custody and wills & estates cases.  A few years after the death of her husband, Barbara Ann was hired by the City of Jackson as the Chief City Prosecutor.  She maintained that position for 10 years.  As city prosectuor, Barbara Ann and her staff prosecuted in excess of 8,000 misdemeanor cases per year.  She also assisted domestic violence victims with Petitions for Protective Orders when they were filed in municipal court.  Barbara Ann currently serves as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Jackson and City Prosecutor for the City of Durant.  She is also a certified Family Law Mediator.

Barbara Ann resides in Madison County with her 15 year old son, Connor.  Barbara Ann has been an active member of the Madison County community.  Most recently, she served on the Madison County Community Advisory Group under Sheriff Randy Tucker where she represented the City of Ridgeland. She is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Madison County where she still participates as an alum. She is a 21 year active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  She is currently active with the Madison County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she has served as chairwoman of the Political Awareness committee. Barbara Ann is an active member of the Madison County Bar Association.  Most recently, she was named one of the Top 50 Businesswomen in Mississippi by the Mississippi Business Journal.
